Our Founder

Decades of Expertise in Transforming Cultural Organizations for Lasting Success

Stephen Browning has over 40 years’ experience in the cultural sector, including senior management roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Oxford Playhouse, Greenwich Theatre, Opera 80 (now English Touring Opera) and the Contemporary Dance Trust at The Place in London.

He also opened the Hong Kong Arts Centre and established the Hong Kong International Film Festival.

Career Highlights

Driving innovation across theatre and the arts

As Director of Marketing, Press and Public Relations for the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1989–1999, Stephen led the marketing and communications for productions in London, Stratford-upon-Avon and New York.

He played a pivotal role in the launches of Les Misérables and Les Liaisons Dangereuses, and developed major corporate partnerships, including record-breaking £3.3 million sponsorship programmes. Stephen also oversaw the opening of the Barbican Theatre and The Pit in London, and The Other Place in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Shaping the future of the cultural landscape

Stephen has served as Chairman of the Society of London Theatre’s Marketing Committee, a member of the Arts Council’s Touring Panel, a Trustee of English Touring Theatre, and Chief Executive of the Contemporary Dance Trust at The Place.

He is currently a Board Director of the Philip Loubser Arts Foundation and Chair of its Signature Fund, which supports artists and institutions including the Royal Ballet School, the Royal College of Music, English National Opera and the International Theatre of Amsterdam.

Stephen holds an MPhil in Arts Management from City University and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is also a member of UK Theatre, the Theatres Trust, Creative UK, the Arts Marketing Association and the Museums Association.
